A breeze
An avantgarde composition for cyclistsLinz Stadt Musiktheater
|
Mauricio Kagel (1931-2008), one of the most important composers in post-war modernity, created with A Breeze from 1976 an impressive example of openness in contemporary music, in stark contrast to its sometimes elitist image. Described by the composer himself as Fleeting Action for One Hundred and Eleven Cyclists, the work offers for one hundred and eleven persons from all over Linz the opportunity to participate. The large group of cyclists will pass by the audience during a few minutes in a prescribed choreography like a breeze and perform the simple composition comprising bell-ringing, singing and other noises. Individual persons, clubs, families, school classes, music groups, bands and others are welcome to participate in the preparatory workshops with the Brazilian director and musician, Marcelo Cardoso Gama, and the Viennese choreographer and dancer, Johanna Kienzl, in solarCity and Pichling. The work and its rehearsal thus serve people without much training as an opportunity to extend their musical and social worlds of experience.
