Journey to Surinam
Exploratory journey to the front gardens of solarCityLinz Stadt Research / social / Participation

The artist's contribution seeks out the images, meanings and dream-worlds hidden behind the strange appearance of exotic plants in people’s home gardens. What makes precisely these plants so attractive? Is it personal recollections of past experiences? Or is there a hidden desire, at least in the imagination, to travel to regions previously never reached? Similar to the travelogues of the nineteenth century, the worlds of imagination hidden behind the exotic plants growing in the gardens of the residential complex WSG are supposed to become visible on a map of imaginary journeys. To this end, the stock of exotic plants in the gardens between Orion and Andromeda Streets will be documented and their botanical names and countries of origin determined. In an improvised research station on Luna Square, drawings of the plants will be done and a world map illustrated which records, step for step, all the hitherto hidden countries and continents and dream-worlds with which the gardens are already invisibly connected.
