Festival of Regions 2009 - Strong local presence

At a press conference in Auwiesen to mark the opening of the Filiale Auwiesen (Auwiesen Branch) of the Linz cultural organizations, Stadtwerkstatt and Radio FRO, examples from the 2009 festival program were presented. The program will be presented to the local populace tomorrow and the day after, and is already available online at www.fdr.at.

Normality in 2009 and discussion about future perspectives

Fifteen years ago, on 18 September 1993, the first Festival of Regions opened at the Linz Stadium. Since then it has developed into a major contemporary event for present-day, site-specific art and culture.

Great interest in Normality

Unusually high level of interest in the call for projects. Record number of 330 projects proposals submitted from 33 countries. Good prospects for the next Festival of Regions which, for the last time with Martin Fritz as director, is taking place on the southern edges of Linz in cooperation with Linz 2009, European Capital of Culture.

Festival of Regions announces Program Advisory Panel 2009

We are glad to announce the constitution of the Program Advisory Panel for the Festival of Regions 2009. the Program Advisory Panel advises the board and the director of the Festival of Regiones on the preliminary selection of proposals. The call for projects and additional information can be found at www.fdr.at. The deadline for project proposals ends on 20 April.

For another month, until 20 April 2008, the opportunity exists of developing project ideas for the 2009 Festival of Regions.

Peek at the Locality 2008

During the period of the call for projects from the end of February to the beginning of April, the Festival of Regions is inviting prospective project submitters, in a five-part series of events called Peek at the Locality, to explore the location. As the guests of active local figures, observers invited by the Festival will explore suburbs with regard to their social, architectural and cultural structures. Visitors will have the opportunity to reflect upon the subject of the Festival directly in relation to the focal locations.

At the point where master plan meets home improvement, in everyday life situated between parking management and the desire for recreational spaces, permeated by hopes of improving one‘s social status and the fear of losing it, historical and topical ideas about communal well-being and society intersect with the daily struggle to live a good life.
