Auwiesen

Information and further materials about Auwiesen

Auwiesen 3000 was the name given to the large residential complex in the south of Linz which was planned in the mid-1970s. The number 3000 was that of the planned residential units. The first flats were ready in 1981 and the entire residential area of Auwiesen today comprises 2798 residential units.

The residential developer was the GWG (non-profit residential company of the city of Linz), which means that the residential complex consists wholly of GWG rental units. Apart from welfare residential construction, the extension of the appropriate infrastructure represented an important aspect of the project. Important stages were the connection of the residential complex to the public transportation network in 1983 by extending Line 1 of the tram line, as well as connecting the area to the district heating network to supply it with environmentally friendly energy.

During the construction period of around fifteen years, a total of 230 million euros were invested. Of this sum, 160 million euros were spent on residential construction and 70 million euros on infrastructure. This makes Auwiesen one of the largest projects in welfare residential construction in the 1970s and 80s.
